The BJP and its allies retain Tripura and Nagaland:-
2nd March 2023: A Day to remember for every BJP member and its supporters! The lotus finally bloomed in the Northeastern part of India, a tale of fiction that no one would have believed if told 10 years back. The assembly election results were announced in the States of Tripura, Nagaland, and Meghalaya yesterday. The BJP registered an emphatic win in 2 of the 3 states while keeping the gates open for discussion over a potential coalition government with the NPP in Meghalaya. In Tripura, the BJP won convincingly with 32 seats as opposed to the 31 seats required to form a government. The tribal-based Tipra Motha Party (TMP) emerged as the second best as they won 13 seats out of the total of 42, they contested. The CPI-M won 11 seats while the Congress was limited to 3. A similar feat was replicated in the "falcon capital of India" as well. This time, however, it wasn't BJP alone but a coalition that steered the party beyond the line. The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) in Nagaland won 25 seats, while their companion, the BJP, secured 12 seats, meaning both of the parties crossed the threshold of 31 to form a government for the second time in a row.Nagaland also created history by choosing 2 female MLAs in the country for the very first time. In Meghalaya, things didn't go well initially for the BJP. The man of the moment, Conrad Sangma, single-handedly led his party (NPP) to 26 seats, however, falling short of the required mark of 31. The United Democratic Party (UDP) emerged as the runners-up with 11 seats. The BJP managed to secure only 2 seats, while the Congress and the TMC managed to bag 5 each. As per sources, Conrad Sangma-led NPP government is looking to ally with the BJP, the UDP, or both to form the government in Meghalaya, as no single party had the majority of the seats. It will be interesting to note a development between the NPP and BJP, given their pre-poll allegations and terming "Conrad Sangma as the most corrupt leader in the country."People are also led to believe that the breakdown between the two parties before the elections was a move to gain more seats by sitting in the opposition. However, without any proof, stories as such are better considered a tale of fiction. After the assembly elections were out, PM Modi thanked the voters from each state for their support and vowed to work for the betterment of these states. He said, “In past years, BJP has witnessed several such occasions. Today, we got another such occasion. I am thankful to the people of Tripura, Meghalaya, and Nagaland. People of these states have given full support to the BJP and its allies.”He hailed the party's "progressive policies" and the "empathetic nature for the minorities" as the reason for the triumph in Tripura and Nagaland, respectively.
