Heavy downpour disrupts Bengaluru airport, 9 flights diverted to Chennai. Post-midnight operations resume amid waterlogging woes and yellow alert.
May 13, 2024: Bengaluru was hit by heavy rains on Sunday, causing a lot of problems in the operation of flights at the city's Kempegowda International Airport. In the end, extreme weather forced nine flights to land in Chennai airport, as per the media.
Notable diverted domestic flights were Akasa Air’s flight from Mumbai (QP1341), Vistara’s flight from Delhi (UK 807), Air Asia’s flight from Guwahati (I5821), Air India’s flight from Mumbai (AI 585), and Alliance Air’s flight from Goa (9I548).
The Thai Lion Air aircraft from Bangkok (SL 216), the Air France flight from Paris (AF 194), the Thai flight from Bangkok (TG 325), and the KLM plane from Amsterdam (KL 879) were among the international flights that were diverted to Chennai.
Regular Kempegowda International Airport operations were resumed post after midnight despite the flight operations getting disrupted throughout the entire day.
The heavy rains in Bengaluru have also ushered in other problems in the city. Terminal 2 of the airport was in the news last week because of the water leakages and the flooding caused by the non-stop rain. Trees were uprooted in various places of the city and waterlogging continued to be a major problem for workers.
