The bodies of three more Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza have been recovered, including two killed fleeing a deadly attack and one trying to reach his granddaughter.
Three more Israeli hostages were found dead by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in a region controlled by Hamas militants in Gaza. The victims were later identified as Hanan Yablonka, 42, Orion Hernandez, 32, and Michel Nisenbaum, 59.
During an overnight raid in collaboration with the Mossad in the N. Gaza town of Jabalia, the IDF retrieved the bodies of the three hostages. This comes barely a week after the bodies of three other kidnapped victims were found in the Palestinian-controlled area.
“It is our national and moral obligation to try everything to bring back our hostages – the living and the dead – and that’s what we are doing,” wrote Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on X, a social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
Yablonka and Hernandez were shot when they tried to escape from the deadly Hamas attack on the Nova music festival on October 7th that killed over 360 people, mostly young festival-goers. The last time Nisenbaum was heard from was when he was trying to call his 4-year-old granddaughter at an army base near the scene when the attack happened.
Three of them were among 252 Israeli citizens kidnapped by Hamas gunmen during the October 7th attack which claimed about 1,200 lives in Israel. So far, Israeli authorities estimate that 130 hostages are still held captive in Gaza.
Two weeks ago, Israel renewed its attacks on the Jabalia area, having left it months before due to the concentration of Hamas forces there. The October attack led to massive Israeli military operations across Gaza to eliminate Hamas and rescue the hostages.
