India's G20 Sherpa, Amitabh Kant, announced that the focus of the third meeting of G20 sherpas in Karnataka, India, will be on New Delhi's priorities of accelerated economic growth and digital transformation. The meeting aims to draft the leaders' declaration for the upcoming G20 Summit in September, which India will host. Kant clarified that contentious issues like the Ukraine crisis will be set aside for later discussions, emphasizing that India's immediate focus is on developmental issues, sustainable growth, financing climate transition, and the adoption of digital public infrastructure (DPI) worldwide.

Kant stated that the Ukraine crisis is not a priority for India, and it will be discussed at the end of the meeting. Russia, supported by China, has insisted on not referencing the Ukraine crisis in outcome documents—a departure from the previous G20 Summit declaration. India aims to bring consensus among G20 members on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inclusive, decisive, ambitious, and action-oriented G20 agenda.

Key areas of focus include accelerating sustainable growth, incorporating the African Union as a new G20 member, addressing law enforcement principles, establishing frameworks for crypto assets and tax rules, advancing sustainable development goals (SDGs), and promoting green development for a just transition globally. Additionally, the reform of multilateral financial institutions is seen as essential to ensure funds flow into emerging markets.

Regarding DPI, Kant highlighted the need for a global definition and governance framework. DPI encompasses internet connectivity, digital identity, and digital payments, providing a foundation for private sector innovation. The meeting also aims to address the setbacks in implementing SDGs caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the cost of living crisis, with only 12% of the targets currently on track.
