A 50-year-old woman was found chained in a Maharashtra forest with US passport and Aadhaar card copies. Suffering from psychiatric issues, she was rescued and hospitalized. Police suspect her husband fled after tying her.
In a brutal case, a 50-year-old woman was found locked with chains to a tree in a forest in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. The woman, whose name was given as Lalita Kayi, was carrying a photocopy of a US passport and an Aadhaar card with address in Tamil Nadu.
The heartbreaking incident was first discovered by a shepherd who heard her screams on Saturday evening in Sonurli village, 450 km away from Mumbai. He quickly contacted the local police who arrived at the scene and helped the woman.
The police officials have said that Kayi was in a state of severe distress, and she was suffering from malnutrition as she had not eaten for several days. The area also had received many rains, which further worsened her situation. She was first admitted at a hospital in Sawantwadi and later shifted to Oros in Sindhudurg. Due to her poor health and mental status, she was transferred to Goa Medical College for further treatment, and according to the present report, she is out of danger. They have been established that she has psychiatric problems, and this has been proved by the medical prescriptions that were found in her possession.
“We have recovered her Aadhaar card and a photocopy of her United States of America passport We have verified that her visa has expired and we are in the process of confirming her nationality,” a police official said. The initial research findings show that Kayi has been living in India for the past 10 years.

Unfortunately, due to her weak mental health, Kayi has not been able to make any clear statement. Police believe he, originally from Tamil Nadu, might have strangled her and left her tied to the tree before escaping. Police are trying to locate her relatives now and groups have been sent to Tamil Nadu, Goa, and other places as part of the investigation.
