The modified version of Xiaomi 12S Ultra, with an effective 1-inch rear camera sensor, this smartphone has an updated circular rear camera ring that backs the connection of Leica M-series lenses.
The M-series has been designed for crop sensors, which makes it a clearly all-in-one fit. Leica and Xiaomi worked together to design and manufacture this concept device featuring 1-inch camera sensors in addition to a layer of sapphire glass protecting the camera module.
This helps to protect the onboard lenses from scratches and marks, it will protect the glass from the screw motion when attaching to the compatible Leica M-series lenses.
It is not clear by the firm which sensor is being used but it is predicted that the same Sony IMX989 1-inch sensor is utilized.
For attaching the Leica lenses to the rear camera module of the Xiaomi 12S ultra concept phone a speed booster or lens extension tube is being used.
It can be seen that if a speed booster is required, it will specify that it is not just a switch like extra optics, to focus the coming light to the smaller sensor.
If this concept device launches publicly, it will require the door for even greater lens adaption. The interesting part of the announcement is that the 35mm Summicron-M lens showcases retail for north of $3,000.
However, this is not the only smartphone with interchangeable lenses. Motorola and Panasonic have also offered concept devices, which used a 1-inch camera sensor and integrated Leica lens. Motorola has Hasselblad-certified True Zoom for its Moto Z lineup, and Panasonic has the CM1.
This is really like a natural progression of smartphones in that sensor size has increased and the concept and limits of smartphone photography have become broad.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra with Leica optics was introduced in July this year. The concept device has a 6.73-inch 2k AMOLED micro-curved display.
The display has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. This is another interesting feature, the display featured Dolby Vision and HDR10+ utilizing the second-generation LTPO technology for an energy-efficient experience.
When we talk about the processor this smartphone is powered by the octa-core snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, including 8GB RAM.
The device featured with triple camera setup with 50 megapixels along with a 1-inch Sony IMX989 primary sensor with optical image stabilization support.
These are the key details of this dreamy smartphone, this concept device will cost INR 70,690 (Expected), The firm has produced only 10 units and has shipped them to the selected influencer to use and review.
