In
a distressing incident near the University of Vermont in Burlington, three
Palestinian college students were shot during the Thanksgiving holiday. The
victims, identified as Hisham Awartani, Kinnan Abdalhamid, and Tahseen Ahmad,
were confronted by an unidentified gunman while strolling along Prospect
Street. The assailant discharged at least four rounds and fled on foot.
The police disclosed that two students sustained torso injuries, while the third suffered injuries to the lower extremities. The victims were promptly taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center, where two are in stable condition, and one faces more serious injuries. The shooter's motive remains unclear, and the police are in the initial stages of their investigation.

The
families of the victims issued a joint statement urging law enforcement to
treat the incident as a hate crime. Expressing their anguish, they emphasized

the police recovering ballistic evidence from the shooting, the assailant
remains unidentified and at large. The incident adds to the growing concerns
about increased tensions and hate crimes in the U.S., especially since the
recent hostilities between Hamas and Israel.
