For the first time in a long time, people reported feeling an earthquake in Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York City. The ground shook and buildings began to tremble.

Shortly after, at Lebanon, New Jersey, some fifty miles away from New York City, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) detected an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8.

According to the USGS, the earthquake was felt in surrounding states and peaked at a depth of roughly 4.7 miles.

The residents were informed about the earthquake and warned that aftershocks might occur shortly. The earthquake was promptly followed by the sending of an emergency alert.

Concurrent with the brief halt of arrivals at Teterboro Airport and La Guardia Airport, there was a ground stop for aircraft at John F. Kennedy Airport and Newark Libert International Airport.
