AAP has opted not to contest Maharashtra's assembly elections, choosing instead to support the MVA coalition. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh announced that Arvind Kejriwal will campaign for MVA candidates. The Maharashtra polls, set for November 20, will see MVA face off against the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti alliance.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided not to field candidates in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, opting instead to support the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition. Sanjay Singh, AAP Rajya Sabha MP, confirmed the party’s stance on social platform X, noting that AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal will campaign for the MVA candidates.
The MVA coalition includes the Congress, Sharad Pawar’s NCP faction, and Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray. All three MVA partners are set to contest 85 seats each in the state’s 288-member assembly. Sources also revealed that Kejriwal is expected to campaign in the Jharkhand assembly elections, lending support to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which is led by Hemant Soren.
In recent electoral efforts, AAP attempted alliances in Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana, though it faced setbacks, failing to win seats in Haryana after its alliance with Congress collapsed. Nonetheless, the party recently won its first seat in Jammu and Kashmir, with Mehraj Malik claiming victory in Doda.
