AAP has threatened to remove Congress from the INDIA bloc, accusing it of working with BJP to undermine AAP in Delhi polls. Tensions escalate after Congress’s Delhi unit criticized AAP governance, raising questions about the opposition alliance’s stability ahead of elections.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced Thursday that it will seek the removal of Congress from the INDIA bloc if the party fails to take action against its leaders for anti-AAP statements and alleged cooperation with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Delhi elections.
AAP leader and Delhi chief minister Atishi accused Congress’s Delhi unit of aligning with the BJP to weaken AAP’s prospects in the upcoming polls. “Ajay Maken called Arvind Kejriwal anti-national. Congress must clarify who is funding its leaders’ campaigns. If no action is taken, we will ask INDIA bloc members to reconsider Congress’s inclusion,” Atishi said at a press conference alongside MP Sanjay Singh.
The clash follows Congress’s release of a “white paper” criticizing AAP’s governance in Delhi, which led to a police complaint against Kejriwal by the Delhi Youth Congress. The growing tensions come amid speculation that West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee may lead the INDIA bloc as calls for a leadership change gain traction.
Singh accused Congress of deliberately fielding candidates to split AAP’s voter base, echoing BJP’s strategies. “Maken’s comments mirror BJP rhetoric, and Congress’s actions seem scripted by the BJP,” Singh alleged.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva dismissed AAP’s claims, blaming both Congress and AAP for Delhi’s mismanagement over the past 26 years. “Voting for AAP is voting for Congress, and vice versa. The people of Delhi won’t be deceived again,” Sachdeva said.
