YS Bhaskar Reddy, the father of MP Avinash Reddy, and Uday Kumar Reddy, an accused party in the murder of YS Vivekananda Reddy, have both filed bail petitions with the Telangana High Court. In their bail applications, the defendants have cited Supreme Court rules recommending a two-week term.
The petitioners' senior counsel, T Niranjan Reddy, told the court that the Central Bureau of probe (CBI) has completed its probe into the death of YS Vivekananda Reddy and has presented a chargesheet. He emphasised the absence of witnesses and evidence given by the CBI to show that his clients had been unfairly implicated.
More than five months have passed with no proof to release the accused. Bhaskar Reddy, who is 72 years old, is in critical condition, it has been reported. While incarcerated, he has had numerous medical exams at prestigious facilities like Gandhi Hospital and NIMS.
A lack of substantive evidence against the accused, the senior counsel said, makes it unfair to keep them in detention. The defense's bid for bail is consistent with Supreme Court rules that require bail cases to be decided quickly.
As the bail petitions are being considered by the Telangana High Court, the case highlights the significance of a fair and objective inquiry process, in which evidence plays a central role in determining the destiny of the accused.
