The Taliban has issued a ban on beauty salons operated by women in Afghanistan. The Ministry of Vice and Virtue, as per Bloomberg, has ordered the immediate closure of all beauty salons run by women in Kabul and other provinces. Violators will face legal action, intensifying the oppressive measures against women in the country.

This ban is part of a series of restrictions that have forced women to retreat from public life, pushing them to remain confined within their homes. The United Nations has repeatedly condemned the Taliban's policies, which include restricting women from pursuing education beyond the sixth grade, working in government or private sectors, and even using parks or gyms.

As a result of such strict rules, the international community has found it difficult to recognize the legitimacy of the Taliban government. This latest move will further exacerbate the already dire situation for Afghan women, limiting their few avenues of employment and economic independence.

Currently, the only profession women are allowed to undertake is working as nurses and doctors in hospitals. Thousands of makeup artists will be affected by this ban, and hundreds of beauty shops will be forced to shut down nationwide, adding to the unemployment crisis.

Afghan women's rights activist, Jamila Afghan, who sought refuge in Turkey, expressed her frustration with the Taliban's approach, calling it oppressive and treating women as commodities to own and oppress.

Makeup artists like Raihan Mubariz expressed their concern about the ban, stating that many men are jobless in the country, and women often have to work in beauty salons to support their families. With this ban, their livelihoods are at risk, leaving them with no means to provide for their loved ones.

Some residents of Kabul, like Abdul Khabir, believe that the government should establish a framework that preserves Islamic values while also ensuring women's rights and economic opportunities are not compromised.

This latest crackdown on beauty salons operated by women highlights the Taliban's disregard for women's rights and equality. It further reinforces the need for the international community to address the situation and support the women of Afghanistan in their pursuit of freedom and independence.
