Hezbollah issues a strong warning of retaliation after an Israeli strike kills senior Hamas leader Saleh al-Arouri in Beirut. The incident intensifies the ongoing conflict, with Hezbollah launching cross-border attacks on northern Israel. Ceasefire negotiations continue as Hamas vows determination, and international condemnation grows.
In
a dramatic escalation of hostilities, Hezbollah has issued a stern warning of
retaliation following the Israeli strike that claimed the life of senior Hamas
leader Saleh
al-Arouri in Beirut. The Lebanon-based militant group launched cross-border
attacks on northern Israel, intensifying the ongoing war that began on October
8. Hezbollah asserted that the "crime would not go unpunished,"
emphasizing its fighters' heightened readiness.
Hezbollah
condemned the Israeli strike as a "serious assault on Lebanon" and a
"dangerous development" in the ongoing conflict between the enemy and
the axis of resistance. The group pledged that the assassination of Arouri
would only strengthen Palestinian resistance to Israel. Taking responsibility
for missile and drone attacks on northern Israel, Hezbollah declared its
commitment to avenge Arouri's death.
Israel
Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Daniel Hagari responded, stating that the
military is prepared for any development, emphasizing a high level of readiness
for all scenarios. Arouri, a founder of Hamas’ military wing, was killed in an
explosion caused by an alleged Israeli drone strike in Beirut. The blast,
confirmed by Hamas and Hezbollah officials, claimed four lives.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously threatened Arouri, praising Israeli security and intelligence agencies for the apparent "assassination." Arouri's death marks the first killing of a senior Hamas political leader since the conflict with Gaza's Hamas rulers erupted three months ago.
Hamas
leader Ismail Haniyeh declared that Arouri's assassination would not deter the
group, vowing increased strength and determination. He labeled the attack a
"cowardly assassination" by the Zionist enemy, prompting protests in
the West Bank. Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the
killing, accusing Israel of dragging Beirut into a new phase of confrontations.
Iran, through Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani, condemned the "despicable" killing. Hezbollah highlighted 138 members killed by Israel during ongoing skirmishes, while Israel reported four civilians and nine IDF soldiers killed. As ceasefire negotiations continue, Haniyeh reiterated Hamas' conditions for a complete cessation of Israel's offensive in exchange for further hostage release.
