Following the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction, which witnessed a total expenditure of INR 230.45 crore across 72 players, including 30 overseas talents, one Australian cricketer, Ashton Turner, faced an unfortunate turn of events. Among the six Australians selected, Turner, set to play for the Lucknow Super Giants after being secured for his base price of INR 1 crore, encountered an unexpected setback.

Within 24 hours of his IPL 2024 auction selection, Turner endured a troubling injury during a Big Bash League (BBL) encounter while captaining the Perth Scorchers against the Hobart Hurricanes.

During this BBL match, when the Hurricanes were struggling at 75/5 after 11 overs, Turner, a part-time bowler, decided to contribute with the ball. However, after bowling just one delivery, Turner faced an unfortunate injury. Grimacing in evident discomfort, he had to leave the field immediately. His participation in the upcoming IPL season became uncertain due to this unexpected turn of events.
