Akshay Kumar's 'OMG 2' Rakes in Over Rs 10 Crore on Day 1 !

Akshay Kumar in OMG2

Hitting the theaters on August 11th, OMG 2 showcases Akshay Kumar in an extended cameo role, debuting alongside the powerhouse Gadar 2. Alongside the notable presence of Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam, the movie garnered an impressive opening of Rs 10.26 crore, as reported by industry observer Sacnilk.

Recording a 37.53 percent occupancy in Hindi nationwide, the film's figures fall short when stacked against Gadar 2's impressive 60 percent opening day occupancy. Amit Rai's creation, OMG 2, presents Akshay Kumar as the divine envoy of Lord Shiva, descending to Earth to aid a fervent believer named Kanti Sharan Mudgal. Unlike its predecessor's Kantilal, this character exudes unwavering faith in the divine.

Akshay Kumar and Sunny Deol competing
Akshay Kumar is back in a supporting role in OGM 2, which marks his first appearance on the big screen after Gadar 2.

Although not spectacular, the initial figures for OMG 2's opening day manage to steer clear of the lackluster Rs 2.5 crore day one earnings witnessed by Akshay's Selfiee earlier this year. With fierce competition in the northern region from Sunny Deol's Gadar 2, and in the southern market from Rajinikanth's Jailer and Chiranjeevi's Bholaa Shankar, OMG 2 faces a challenging box office landscape. Additionally, Karan Johar's Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, featuring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, continues to command a presence in certain screenings as it embarks on its third week.

OMG2 vs Gadar 2
The occupancy rate of Gadar 2 stands out from the competition, as does the uniqueness of the premise of OMG 2.

Navya Shrivastava of TSW gave 3/5 as its captivating storyline, coupled with Akshay Kumar's mesmerizing portrayal as the divine envoy, kept her engaged from start to finish. The film's opening day earnings of Rs 10.26 crore reflect its strong appeal, even amidst tough competition.

While Gadar 2 dominates with its impressive occupancy, OMG 2's unique premise and unwavering character like Kanti Sharan Mudgal truly won me over. As a fan of compelling cinema, I must say that OMG 2's performance is praiseworthy. Looking forward to more remarkable releases in the future!
