In a heartwarming turn of events, two American citizens who had been held hostage by the militant group Hamas since October 7 have been successfully released. President Joe Biden, in a statement on Friday, announced their freedom and pledged unwavering support from the US government throughout their recovery and healing process. The hostages were identified as a mother and her teenage daughter.

The release was made possible through the collaborative efforts of multiple nations, with President Biden expressing his gratitude to the governments of Qatar and Israel for their vital partnership in securing the freedom of the two Americans.

President Biden spoke with the hostages and their families over the phone shortly after their rescue. "Today, we have secured the release of two Americans held hostage by Hamas during the horrific terrorist attack against Israel on October 7," he said. Our fellow Americans have gone through horrific trauma over the last 14 days, and I am delighted that they will soon be reunited with their terrified families. The US government will provide full assistance to these victims and their families as they recover and grieve, and we should all respect their privacy at this time."

This release marked a significant development as the mother and daughter were the first hostages to be freed by Hamas, while more than 200 individuals were still held captive.

President Biden emphasized that his administration had been tirelessly working to secure the release of American citizens taken hostage by Hamas since the initial moments of the attack, and these efforts continue to this day. Secretary of State Tony Blinken shared the news that the two released Americans were safely in the care of Israeli authorities and they would receive the necessary support and assistance.

While celebrating the freedom of these two individuals, both President Biden and Secretary Blinken highlighted the ongoing concern for the ten additional Americans who remain unaccounted for in the midst of this conflict. These individuals, along with around 200 others, are being held hostage by Hamas, and the international community strongly advocates for their release.

Secretary Blinken expressed gratitude to the Qatari government for its help and noted the anguish felt by the captives' relatives. "The entire United States government will work every minute of every day to secure their release, to bring their loved ones home," he informed them. They have my solemn commitment."

The release of the hostages, as well as the vow to return all those held by Hamas back to safety, demonstrate international collaboration and the US government's commitment to safeguarding the protection of its nationals in times of crisis.
