The Congress party's delay in announcing candidates for Amethi and Rae Bareli, two Gandhi family strongholds, has sparked speculation about potential nominees like Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Robert Vadra.

The Congress party has not formally announced its candidates for Amethi and Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, known as constituencies closely associated with the Gandhi family. This caused many to speculate and wonder about the real reasons behind the delay.

In Amethi, where the last election has seen the former Congress president Rahul Gandhi lose to BJP's Smriti Irani, the local party workers are expecting that Gandhi should again be given the ticket as a candidate. But the Congress has chosen to remain tight-lipped about who will be put up as its candidate from this constituency; some are sure that Rahul Gandhi's brother-in-law Robert Vadra will finally get a chance to contest here this time round. On Wednesday, the posters bearing the names of Amethi constituency candidates came up briefly but were removed soon after.

The Rae Bareli situation is however not any different. The expectations are also very high that after being represented by the Congress party leader, Sonia Gandhi for many years, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi's sister and a prominent Congress leader, will try to win the election from the same constituency. This very rumor has been circulating that the BJP may opt for Varun Gandhi who is the cousin of Priyanka to oppose her, the BJP leadership has, however, denied any such thing.

It has been announced by the Congress that they have put up their candidates for 15 of the 17 Lok Sabha seats that they are contesting in Uttar Pradesh as an alliance with the Samajwadi Party but the election for Amethi and Rae Bareli is yet to be announced, and therefore there are many speculations and questions around the party's strategy.

With more campaigning on the way, the world will be waiting how Congress will monetize the uncertainty of both the prestigious seats and their respective candidates.
