Apple has begun manufacturing the iPhone 16 Pro in India, marking a key milestone in its local production strategy. With plans for new retail stores and price reductions for the iPhone 16 series, Apple aims to deepen its market presence and enhance sustainability efforts.
In a significant development for the Indian tech landscape, Apple has commenced the production of the iPhone 16 Pro in India, marking the first time that its Pro models will be manufactured locally. This move is part of Apple's broader strategy to enhance its manufacturing footprint in India as the company gears up for its fiscal year 2025. Alongside the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple is also producing the iPhone 16 Pro Max, with plans for both domestic sales and exports to select international markets.
The expansion of Apple's production capabilities reflects India's growing significance as a global manufacturing hub for smartphones. In fiscal year 2024, Apple assembled approximately 14% of its global iPhone production in India, supported by investments from its manufacturing partners such as Foxconn and Tata-owned Wistron. This is in line with the Indian government's "Make in India" initiative, aimed at boosting local manufacturing and exports.
In addition to manufacturing, Apple is set to bolster its retail presence with new stores planned for Bengaluru and Pune, following the successful launch of its first two stores in Delhi and Mumbai earlier this year. Apple’s retail strategy focuses on deepening connections with Indian customers, offering them immersive experiences with the brand.

The company has also made headlines by significantly reducing the prices of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max compared to their predecessors, a move that may disrupt the competitive landscape among smartphone manufacturers in India. As Apple continues to navigate the evolving market dynamics, its commitment to sustainability remains strong, with plans to achieve carbon neutrality in its supply chain by 2030.
