Appointment of New Judge:-
The US Justice Department is trying to stop JetBlue Airways' $3.8 billion acquisition deal of low-cost airline Spirit Airlines and the case was reassigned to a judge renowned to speed cases along the trial process. US District Judge William Young was unfairly handed the JetBlue-Spirit case; despite the fact that the case should be heard by a different judge who is already dealing with a different antitrust issue involving JetBlue   Appointment of New Judge Appointment of New Judge District Judge Leo Sorokin is in charge of the other JetBlue case, which aims to have American Airlines and JetBlue end their US-Northeast alliance since it would result in increased rates for customers. The Justice Department argued that because both cases contained evaluations of JetBlue's network plans, aircraft orders, and configurations, as well as pricing strategy. Therefore, Justice Sorokin should also hear the JetBlue and Spirit cases. In the lawsuit involving the merger of Spirit Airlines and JetBlue, The Justice Department stated that "the merger of JetBlue and Spirit would unite two extremely close and strong competitors". Additionally, they described the agreement as presumably illegal given that JetBlue intended to eliminate 10% to 15% of the seats from each Spirit airplane. However, in response, JetBlue has countered that the merger would result in the creation of the fifth-largest US carrier with a 9% market share. The merger would enable it to more effectively compete with the major airlines, which was good for competition.
