Fani Willis,

Georgia prosecutor Fani Willis has issued arrest warrants for former President Donald Trump and 18 co-defendants, following a grand jury's indictment of 13 felony charges against Trump. These charges pertain to his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in the state.

The move comes as part of what Willis has described as a "criminal conspiracy to overturn the results" of the said election.

The charges leveled against Trump include Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO), conspiracy to commit forgery, filing false documents, and solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer, among others. Alongside Trump, 18 of his associates have also been indicted, including Mark Meadows, former White House chief of staff, and Rudy Giuliani, former mayor of New York City.

Fani Willis, the Fulton County district attorney, announced the issuance of arrest warrants and set a strict deadline for the defendants to surrender voluntarily by noon on August 25, 2023. Highlighting the gravity of the situation, she stressed that the alleged illegal actions had the "goal of allowing Donald J. Trump to seize the presidential term of office beginning on January 20, 2021."

Willis emphasized the importance of fair and accurate election processes, stating that all elections are administered by states and that their role in this process is crucial for the functioning of democracy.

She pointed out that Georgia has a legal process for addressing election challenges, but the indictment claims that the defendants engaged in a criminal enterprise to overturn the state's presidential election result.

The prosecutor has expressed her intention to seek a trial date within the next six months and aims to have all 19 defendants tried together in the same case. However, the final decision on scheduling rests with the judge overseeing the proceedings.
