Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday slammed Prime Minister Narendra  Modi accusing him of betraying the people of Delhi as the Lok Sabha passed the service bill.

He urged the citizens to never trust the Prime Minister again. The Delhi Ordinance Bill deals with the control of services in the national capital and has ignited tensions between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Kejriwal highlighted the BJP's previous promises, dating back to 2014, to grant full statehood to Delhi, which were not fulfilled with the bill's approval.

‘Backstabbing’
Chief Minister Kejriwal accuses PM Modi of 'backstabbing' Delhi in the wake of Delhi ordinance bill passage. Tensions rise between AAP and BJP.

To support his claim, the Chief Minister shared a screenshot of a 2013 post from the BJP's Delhi unit, wherein the BJP accused the AAP of adopting their promises of full statehood and control of the police under the state government.

The Delhi ordinance bill easily passed in the Lok Sabha due to the BJP's majority, further strengthened by the support of the party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). However, in the 245-seat Rajya Sabha, the NDA lacks a majority, though several non-allied parties have pledged their support for the bill.

As Delhi remains a Union Territory with its police reporting to the Union Home Ministry, the quest for full statehood has been a contentious issue between the AAP-led Delhi government and the BJP-led Central government. The passage of the bill has deepened the political divide between the two parties, leaving the governance of Delhi uncertain.
