Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced his intention to resign within the next two days, claiming that the BJP attempted to break his party and arrest him in a bid to form their own government in Delhi. Kejriwal urged opposition leaders not to resign if jailed on false charges.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Sunday that he will resign from his position in the next two days, following allegations that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attempted to dismantle his party and arrest him to take control of the Delhi government. Kejriwal's resignation declaration came during his first address to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers after his release on bail in the Delhi excise policy case.
In his speech, Kejriwal accused the BJP of using tactics to break his party and damage his morale, but ultimately failing in their efforts. "They wanted to break the party, break Kejriwal's courage and morale... they have made a formula—break parties, break MLAs, send leaders to jail. They thought they would form a government in Delhi by sending Kejriwal to jail...But they couldn't break our party... they couldn't even break away from the party workers," he said.
Kejriwal explained why he had delayed his resignation, stating that he wanted to protect the country’s democracy. "I didn't resign because I wanted to protect the country's democracy... They have made a new formula—wherever they lose, they send the CM to jail and form their government."
In light of his situation, Kejriwal urged opposition chief ministers not to resign if they face false charges and imprisonment. He emphasized the need to resist such attempts to undermine democratic governments and party integrity.
