Prashant Kishor promised to scrap Bihar’s liquor ban within an hour if elected. He criticized the ban for causing financial losses and benefiting illegal liquor trade. Despite the prohibition’s support from women, Kishor maintains it has failed and vows to continue opposing it if his party forms the government.

Prashant Kishor, leader of the Jan Suraj Party, promised to revoke Bihar’s liquor ban within an hour if his party forms the next government. Kishor criticized the 2016 prohibition policy, calling it “fake” and accusing it of causing significant financial loss to the state while benefiting the liquor mafia.

Kishor estimates that Bihar loses around ₹20,000 crore annually due to the ban. Despite potential backlash from women voters, who largely supported the prohibition, Kishor insists the policy has failed and vows to continue opposing it.

The liquor ban, implemented by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in response to protests led by women, aimed to curb alcohol consumption but has faced criticism for its failure to stop the illegal liquor trade. Kishor argues that the policy has instead led to issues such as spurious liquor consumption, resulting in deaths and methanol-induced blindness.
