Authorities in Mizoram Seize Heroin and Explosives Worth Rs 47 Crore, Detain Three

Security forces in Mizoram seized heroin and explosives worth over Rs 47 crore. Three individuals were arrested in connection with the busts, involving smuggling from Myanmar. The operations, conducted jointly by Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police, targeted areas in Champhai and Lawngtlai districts.
In
a significant development, security
forces in Mizoram have successfully intercepted illicit activities
involving narcotics and explosives, valued at a staggering Rs 47.35 crore. The
operations, which saw the collaboration of the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police,
resulted in the arrest of three individuals implicated in these illegal
ventures.
Heroin,
with a total weight of 5,394 grams and a street value of Rs 37.75 crore, was
confiscated during a coordinated effort at Melbuk Road Junction, Zokhawthar,
Champhai district. The contraband was suspected to have been smuggled from
neighboring Myanmar, highlighting the cross-border nature of such criminal
activities.
Further bolstering their crackdown, security forces conducted a separate operation in the same area, seizing an additional 1,376 grams of heroin valued at Rs 9.6 crore. The apprehended suspects and seized narcotics have been handed over to Zokhawthar police for legal proceedings.
In
a parallel effort to combat arms trafficking, Assam Rifles personnel
intercepted a vehicle on the Sangau-Pangkhua Road in Lawngtlai district. The
subsequent search led to the confiscation of 3,000 rounds of cartridges and 10
Passive Night Sight (PNS) devices. The driver of the vehicle was promptly
apprehended and turned over to law enforcement authorities along with the
seized items.
These
operations underscore the unwavering commitment of Mizoram's security forces to
thwart illegal activities within its borders. The collaborative efforts between
various law enforcement agencies have proven instrumental in disrupting the
illicit supply chain of drugs and weapons, ensuring the safety and security of
the region.
