Shakib, Bangladesh

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has announced his retirement from international cricket.

Hasan, who is the top T20I all-rounder in the rankings, continues to rule the cricket world even at the age of 36.

With the aim of ending his career with the 2025 Champions Trophy, Shakib will first give up Test cricket and then retire from the ODIs as well as the T20s.

As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Shakib stated, "The 2025 Champions Trophy for ODIs and the 2024 T20 World Cup for T20Is. Tests may be sooner.”

“Maybe (after the World Cup). I will retire all at once, but I will stop playing each format one by one. I will announce my retirement after the 2025 Champions Trophy," he added.

However, the Bangladeshi skipper and his team have a major challenge to face before he retires.

Before the 50-over World Cup, which is scheduled to start on October 5, Bangladesh will have an opportunity to adjust their team and polish their players in the warm-up games.

Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka on Friday at the Barsapara Stadium, Assam for their last practice before the big event.
