In response to the escalating Dengue crisis, Bengal
BJP leaders on Monday slammed the state government for their alleged
inefficiency.
They also carried a protest outside the state
Assembly, and took to the streets, demanding the enforcement of stringent
measures to combat the surging Dengue cases statewide.
As of July 2023, West Bengal's Health Department
sources report nearly eight fatalities and over 700 infections attributed to
this mosquito-borne ailment. Regions notably affected include Birbhum, North 24
Parganas, Nadia, and Kolkata.
Leader of the Opposition and BJP MLA, Suvendu
Adhikari, intensified criticism against the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC)
government, asserting, "This constitutes a pandemic for West Bengal. No
hospitalization, no kits, no treatment, nothing else. There are no estimates.
CM Mamata Banerjee is demanding cooperation. We will cooperate but estimates
need to be given. Where are the test kits?"
He rebuked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who also
oversees the state's Health and Family Welfare Department, for her absence of
concrete action in tackling the escalating Dengue cases.
Furthermore, BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul accused the
state Assembly Speaker of suppressing discussion on the mounting Dengue crisis.
"The Speaker of the house didn't allow us (BJP
MLAs) to speak on Dengue cases or atrocities against women in West Bengal,” she
criticized.
Paul also accused the ruling TMC of concealing pertinent information about Dengue cases in the state.
On the other hand, state BJP Chief Sukanta Majumdar
took a hands-on approach on Sunday, July 30, conducting a cleanup drive in
Kolkata's Maniktala constituency, laying blame on the Municipal Corporation for
its inability to contain the outbreak.
