In recent remarks, US President Joe Biden criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's approach to the conflict in Gaza, suggesting that Netanyahu's actions could be detrimental to Israel's reputation on the international stage. Biden stressed the importance of safeguarding civilian lives in Gaza and urged Netanyahu to reconsider his strategies.

Biden's comments come after months of warning Israel about the escalating civilian casualties in Gaza and the potential consequences it could have on international support for Israel. In an interview with MSNBC's Jonathan Capehart, Biden highlighted his concerns about the mounting death toll in Gaza, stating that it goes against the principles Israel stands for and constitutes a significant mistake.

The US President also drew a "red line" concerning a potential Israeli invasion of the Gaza city of Rafah, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring Israel's security while prioritizing the protection of innocent lives. Despite this, Biden clarified that he would not halt crucial weapons support to Israel, such as the Iron Dome missile interceptors.

Addressing the critical nature of defending Israel, Biden reiterated the importance of maintaining support while expressing willingness to engage directly with the Israeli government to address the ongoing crisis. He refrained from elaborating on potential visits or diplomatic initiatives but acknowledged efforts by CIA Director Bill Burns to revive stalled negotiations in the region.

Biden's remarks underscore the growing tension between the US and Israel regarding the handling of the Gaza conflict, with the US President advocating for a more cautious approach that minimizes civilian casualties and preserves diplomatic relations. However, achieving a lasting ceasefire remains uncertain as Hamas continues to resist proposed agreements brokered by the US and its allies.
