BJP Leader Tejasvi Surya Mocks Congress Party Over "INDIA" Coalition Name

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tejasvi Surya took a dig at the Congress party on Tuesday, ridiculing the newly coined acronym "INDIA" for the opposition's coalition of 26 parties. The alliance, Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, aims to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ruling BJP in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

In a tweet, Surya mockingly mentioned that many Congress members seemed elated over the new acronym, as if it were a groundbreaking invention. He pointed out that "INDIAN" has always been a part of the Indian National Congress (INC), insinuating that there is nothing genuinely Indian about the party.

The irony of the new coalition's name did not escape the attention of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who took a swipe at "INDIA." He asserted that India's identity is deeply rooted in its civilizational conflict, contrasting it with the British-imposed name "India." Sarma emphasized the need to free the country from this colonial legacy and reaffirmed the BJP's commitment to work for "Bharat."

The name "Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance" was reportedly suggested by Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal and leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The alliance's name was the result of extensive discussions among the opposition leaders.

The announcement of the alliance's name was made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received during the discussions. However, the BJP leader's ridicule of the name and Congress's historical association with "INDIAN" added a tinge of controversy to the development.

In response to the BJP's taunts, Congress leader Pawan Khera retorted that they would not stoop to suggesting that dissenters should go to Pakistan, subtly pointing out that such provocative rhetoric is uncalled for.
