The death of a young Dalit woman in Mainpuri has led to serious allegations against the SP and intensified political rivalries ahead of the Karhal assembly bypoll. The case underscores the intersection of caste, politics, and violence in the region. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the truth.
A 23-year-old Dalit woman was found dead in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, with her family alleging that she was murdered for refusing to vote for the Samajwadi Party (SP) in the Karhal assembly bypoll. The woman’s father claimed she was kidnapped on Tuesday around noon and later poisoned to death. Her body was discovered in a field near Kanjara village the following morning. In his complaint, he accused local SP leader Prashant Yadav and Dr. Mohan Katheria of involvement in her abduction and murder.
Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar confirmed the arrests of both accused, stating that further investigation is underway. The BJP alleged that the SP was behind the murder to intimidate voters, sharing a video of the grieving father on social media. The SP denied the accusations, calling them a conspiracy by the BJP to defame the party.

Karhal, a family stronghold of the SP, is witnessing a heated contest in the bypoll, with SP’s Tej Pratap Singh, grandson of Mulayam Singh Yadav, facing BJP’s Anujesh Pratap Singh and candidates from other parties. The bypoll was necessitated after Akhilesh Yadav vacated the seat upon being elected as a Lok Sabha MP earlier this year. The incident has further heightened political tensions in the constituency.
