BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit submits report analyzing Lok Sabha election loss, citing administrative issues, worker discontent, and shifting voter bases. The party faces internal discord and an 8% vote share decline, prompting leadership to initiate discussions for future strategy.
The BJP in Uttar Pradesh has also prepared a detailed report which has been forwarded to its central leadership regarding the reason that led to the party’s poll debacle in the recently held Lok Sabha elections. The report emerges after the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance triumphed in 43 out of the 80 seats in the state while the BJP-led NDA lost 28 seats, it won in the 2019 elections.
1. Perceived administrative high-handedness
2. Discontent among party workers
3. One of the most significant issues is that the papers are leaked frequently in government exams.
4. This problem involves hiring of contractual workers in government positions
5. From the key Kurmi and Maurya communities, a shift in support is witnessed.
6. Reduction in Dalit votes
The report has pointed out that the BJP has lost the 8% of votes in all the regions of Uttar Pradesh. It also notes that the party’s campaign reached a high level of intensity during the initial stages leaving the workers tired during the final stages of voting.
Conflict within the state unit has emerged, where the CM Yogi Adityanath blamed the defeat to ‘over-confidence’ while the deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya refuted the comment.
Still, BJP’s central leadership led by its president JP Nadda has recently started opening talks with the state leadership regarding these matters. The party is now targeting by-elections for 10 assembly seats and has directed the state units to patch up their differences and reconnect with voters.

While the BJP faces such a loss in a vital state, the report highlights that the feeling may transform into an ‘upper caste versus backward castes’ situation, and hence, calls for unity and ground-level work. This contributed to a large extent to the performance of the party in Uttar Pradesh and was reflected in the party’s Lok Sabha performance.
