Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary was arrested on Friday.

Late Friday night, SG Suryah, the state secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was apprehended by the Madurai district’s cybercrime police following a tweet he posted a few days ago, targeting Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan.

In the tweet, Suryah accused Venkatesan of failing to take appropriate action after the tragic death of a sanitation worker who was forced to clean a drain filled with human waste.

Expressing his discontent, Suryah strongly criticized the incident in a letter addressed to MP Venkatesan. He wrote, “Your fake politics of separatism stinks worse than that cesspool, find a way to live as a human being, mate!”

The arrest of SG Suryah has sparked condemnation from the Tamil Nadu BJP president, K Annamalai. Taking to Twitter, Annamalai expressed his disapproval, stating, “The arrest of BJP state secretary SG Suryah is highly condemnable. His only mistake was to expose the nasty double standards of the communists, allies of DMK… These arrests will not deter us, and we will continue to be bearers of the uncomfortable truth.”

Interestingly, Suryah’s arrest comes in the wake of another political figure facing legal consequences. State minister Senthil Balaji was remanded to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) until June 23, 2023, by the Chennai Metropolitan Session Court.

Balaji is currently under investigation for his alleged involvement in a money laundering case.

The arrest of SG Suryah has raised concerns among BJP members about the stifling of free speech and the targeting of party officials who dare to expose what they perceive as the “double standards” of opposing parties. The incident further highlights the tense political climate in Tamil Nadu, with multiple politicians facing legal scrutiny.

As the situation unfolds, supporters of the BJP are rallying behind Suryah, vowing to persist in their pursuit of truth and transparency, undeterred by these developments.

The coming days will undoubtedly shed more light on the consequences of Suryah’s arrest and its implications for the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.
