In a groundbreaking move for Queensland's 2032 Olympics readiness, Brisbane's iconic Gabba stadium faces a massive reconstruction. The rejuvenation involves an investment of 2.7 billion Australian dollars (1.8 billion USD), transforming it into a world-class facility. This ambitious endeavour is set to reshape the stadium into a showpiece for the multi-nation event.

Steven Miles, Queensland state's Deputy Premier, confirmed the stadium's overhaul, emphasizing the capacity boost from 42,000 to 50,000 seats. The redevelopment, slated to commence post the 2025 home Ashes Test, promises an extensive renovation span until 2030. Friday's announcement highlighted the project's preference for a demolition and rebuild approach, validated as the optimal and cost-effective solution.

"This will not only create a well-connected stadium but also catalyze urban renewal, enhancing the city's appeal," Miles remarked enthusiastically.

During the redevelopment, Brisbane's AFL teams, the Brisbane Head and Brisbane Lions, will temporarily relocate to a new facility for approximately four years. The Gabba, renowned globally for India's historic win in 2021 and subsequent victories by South Africa and England, is poised to host the second Test against West Indies in January.

With this transformation, Brisbane joins Melbourne and Sydney as the third Australian city to host the Summer Olympics, elevating its status as a global sporting destination. This redevelopment not only gears up the Gabba for future sporting extravaganzas but also aims to redefine Brisbane's urban landscape.
