A viral video showing racial abuse and death threats against an Indian couple in Ontario led to the arrest of an 18-year-old man. Charged with uttering threats, the suspect will appear in court in September. Police said the case involves hate elements and urged residents to report similar incidents.

A shocking incident in Ontario’s Peterborough has sparked outrage after a video emerged showing an Indian couple being subjected to racial slurs, threats of violence, and obscene gestures in a mall parking lot. The confrontation took place on July 29 at the Lansdowne Place Mall, according to police.
The footage, originally posted by the victims on Facebook, shows three men in a pickup truck harassing the couple. When the Indian man attempts to record their license plate, one of the men shouts, “Do you want me to get out of the car and fg kill you?” The group also hurled racist insults, including “big nose” and “fg immigrant.”
The video further shows one man exiting the truck and making obscene gestures toward the couple’s car, allegedly simulating sexual acts. The victims also claimed the suspects rammed their vehicle, causing damage. The clip quickly went viral on social media, prompting widespread condemnation and concerns over rising hostility toward Indian immigrants in Canada.
Following an investigation, the Peterborough Police Service arrested an 18-year-old male from Kawartha Lakes on August 8. He has been charged with “Utter threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm” and is scheduled to appear in court on September 16.
