Congress President Demands PM Modi's

During the monsoon session of Parliament, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge demanded a comprehensive statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the violence in Manipur. Kharge expressed concern over the disturbing incidents, including the recent video showing two Kuki women being paraded naked, leading to national outrage. He criticized the PM for taking too long to address the situation and urged him to make an elaborate statement in Parliament.

Kharge further called for the immediate resignation of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the imposition of President's Rule in the state due to the ongoing violence and deteriorating law and order situation.

Prior to the Parliament session, PM Modi made his first comment on the Manipur situation, condemning the violence and urging all Chief Ministers to strengthen law and order in their respective states. He emphasized that the issue of a woman's honor should transcend political considerations.

The unrest in Manipur began on May 3 during a 'Tribal Solidarity March' against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe status. Ethnic violence erupted, resulting in over 150 fatalities and the displacement of thousands. The situation escalated when a video showing the humiliation of two women from one community by men from another community went viral, sparking widespread national outrage.

In response to the video, the alleged culprits have been arrested to face justice. However, the incident has ignited public anger and raised concerns about the safety and security of women in the region.

As the Parliament session commenced with opposition leaders raising slogans about the Manipur violence, the demand for an in-depth statement from PM Modi and decisive action in the state has intensified. The government's response to the situation remains under scrutiny as the nation grapples with the grave humanitarian crisis in Manipur.
