Amid the ongoing discussion and disagreement about placing a Lord Ganesha statue at Idgah Maidan, the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation has granted approval to the Rani Channamma Maidan Gajanan Utsav Mahamandali to set up a Ganesha statue there. This approval comes following an order from the Karnataka High Court. The Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Ishwar Ullagaddi, mentioned that this permission was granted as instructed by the High Court.
On the other hand, more than 20 organizations urged the municipal authority not to permit any celebrations at this location.
Commissioner Ishwar Ullagaddi mentioned that, in accordance with the High Court’s instructions, they had given permission to celebrate the Ganesha festival at Idgah Maidan for three days as per their resolution.
Ullagaddi also gave the permission letter to Sanjeev Badaskar, who is the president of Rani Channamma Maidan Gajanan Utsav Mahamandali.
The Karnataka High Court rejected a request from the Muslim organization Anjuman-e-Islam on Friday. They wanted the court to stop the Dharwad Municipal Commissioner from allowing certain Hindu groups to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi at the Idgah maidan in Hubbali-Dharwad.
Anjuman-e-Islam went to court after the Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) passed a resolution allowing Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at the ground.
The HDMC resolution allows the placement of the Ganesh idol at the maidan. However, the Municipal Commissioner, who recently took charge, has not given permission.
