Mumbai Police have arrested two suspects in the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique, identified as Gurmail Singh (23) from Haryana and Dharmaraj Kashyap (19) from Uttar Pradesh. The suspects were reportedly linked to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, currently under investigation for its involvement in the crime. Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister, was shot dead by three assailants outside his son Zeeshan Siddique's office in Bandra, Mumbai, on Saturday.
The two accused had allegedly conducted reconnaissance of Siddique’s residence and office in the weeks leading up to the murder. Authorities are investigating multiple motives, including a possible contract killing, business rivalry, or conflicts related to a slum rehabilitation project.
The Crime Branch is continuing its investigation, with a manhunt underway for the third suspect. Meanwhile, forensic teams have examined the crime scene for further evidence. The shocking assassination has raised concerns about the law and order situation in Maharashtra, with opposition parties demanding answers, particularly as assembly elections approach.
