Cyclone Mocha:-

Cyclone Mocha brewing in the Bay of Bengal has not only posed a difficult challenge of safety before India but for all the coastal countries located in the bay of Bengal like Myanmar and Bangladesh. Weather experts have forecasted that the cyclone will be hitting land on Sunday (13th May 2023) with a speed of 160 km per hour making coastal areas uninhabitable for human population.

Safeguards Taken to Prevent Damage to Life and Property

India's neighbor, Bangladesh has a total population of 160 million people. Out of them, 500,000 people are residents of the coastal areas of Bangladesh. To provide an alternative shelter to such people, 576 spots of shelter have been arranged for by the Bangladesh government. The Indian Meteorological Department said, "The cyclone is severe and will likely affect millions of fishers and coastal communities in Bangladesh and Myanmar."

Threat to The Rohingya Population Predicted

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has also predicted that the cyclone will be especially fatal for the Rohingya population of Bangladesh who are refugees from Myanmar as they are mostly residents of Cox's Bazar, a spot in Bangladesh in which the cyclone is expected to catch a speed of 175 kilometers per hour.
