"Defamation Case Against Rahul Gandhi:-
In yet another defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, a complaint has been filed in a court in Kolkata over his Recent 'RSS-Kaurava' remark. The complaint was filed by a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the city, who claimed that the remark was an insult to the organization and its members.
Gandhi had made the comment while addressing a gathering in Kerala earlier this week, where he had said that the RSS was like the Kauravas, who were the opponents of the Pandavas in the Hindu epic Mahabharata. He had further alleged that the RSS was trying to divide the country on communal lines, and that its ideology was responsible for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.
The remarks had triggered a backlash from the RSS, with its leaders terming them as baseless and defamatory. The organization had also demanded an apology from Gandhi, failing which it had threatened to take legal action against him.
The complaint filed in the court in Kolkata is the latest in a series of defamation cases that have been filed against Gandhi over his controversial remarks. Earlier this year, he was slapped with a defamation suit by an RSS worker in Maharashtra over his comments on the organization's role in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. The case is currently pending in a court in Bhiwandi.
Gandhi's remarks have also drawn criticism from other quarters, with several leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accusing him of resorting to communal politics. The party's national president, JP Nadda, had termed the comments as "shameful and irresponsible", and had demanded an apology from Gandhi.
The controversy over Gandhi's remarks is likely to further escalate the political tensions between the Congress and the BJP, who have been engaged in a bitter war of words over a range of issues in recent months. While the Congress has accused the BJP of pursuing a divisive agenda, the ruling party has alleged that the opposition is playing politics of appeasement and is soft on terrorism.
The case against Gandhi is expected to come up for hearing in the court in Kolkata in the coming weeks. The Congress Leader has not yet responded to the latest allegations against him, but has previously defended his comments, saying that he was only stating the truth about the RSS and its ideology.
