A rare snowstorm has paralysed southern US states, causing four deaths and over 2,100 flight cancellations. With unprecedented snowfall and freezing conditions, schools and airports are closed, while officials warn of black ice hazards. The storm marks New Orleans' heaviest snow since 1963.

A historic snowstorm has swept across the southern United States, leaving four dead and causing widespread disruption. States including Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, and Florida are experiencing rare snowfall, with some areas recording over 10 inches.

More than 2,100 flights have been cancelled nationwide, with major airports in Houston, New Orleans, and Tallahassee shutting down operations. Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport are expected to reopen on Wednesday, while Port Houston has also closed its facilities.

The storm has created hazardous conditions, with blizzard-like whiteouts reported in New Orleans—the heaviest snowfall there since 1963. Schools and state offices across Louisiana, Texas, and Georgia have closed as authorities urge residents to remain indoors.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry warned of dangerous black ice, cautioning residents to avoid travel even on seemingly clear roads. "Black ice is a big problem—you can't see it, but it's extremely slippery and dangerous," Landry said.

Savannah, Georgia, Mayor Van Johnson highlighted the region's lack of preparedness for such weather. "We can handle hurricanes and tropical storms, but snow and ice are different. Stay home if you can," Johnson advised.
