Brij Bhushan Singh

A court in Delhi will hear the cognisance of charges against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, on July 7, in connection with sexual harassment allegations levelled against him by six women wrestlers.

Singh, who is also a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is facing a significant legal battle after the women wrestlers have accused him of sexual harassment.

During a recent court session at Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court, the judge inquired about pending reports from the Delhi Police regarding the case. The court received information from the police stating that certain reports from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) are yet to be finalized and may require additional time for completion.

ACMM Harjeet Singh Jaspal acknowledged the police's statement indicating that their investigation is still in progress, and they anticipate submitting an additional charge sheet. Consequently, the court postponed the consideration of the matter until the following week.

However, due to the awaited FSL report and the report on the call detail record (CDR), it is anticipated that further time will be required. Therefore, the judge decided to reschedule the hearing for July 7.

The chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh includes accusations of sexual harassment, stalking, assault, and criminal intimidation. The chargesheet was submitted on June 15 after weeks of protests by prominent wrestlers like Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, and Vinesh Phogat.

The upcoming hearing on July 7 will play a crucial role in determining the course of justice in this high-profile case.
