Prayagraj Bus Conductor Attacked: Uttar Pradesh Resident Arrested for Fare Dispute

An engineering student in Prayagraj attacked a bus conductor over a fare dispute, leaving the conductor critically injured. The accused, identified as Lareb Hashmi, was arrested after an encounter with the police.

In an alarming incident in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, a 20-year-old engineering student assaulted a bus conductor with a cleaver during a ticket fare disagreement, stated the police. The conductor, Harikesh Vishwakarma, is in critical condition and receiving treatment at Swarooprani Nehru Hospital of the Medical College. A circulating social media video captures the accused accusing the conductor of blasphemy.

The perpetrator, Lareb Hashmi, a first-year B.Tech student at United Engineering College, was apprehended near Chandi Port, approximately two and a half kilometres away from the scene. DCP Yamunanagar Abhinav Tyagi confirmed that legal proceedings were initiated with an FIR lodged at the Industrial Police Station. Interrogations of the accused student are ongoing.

Reportedly, the altercation arose over fare discrepancies during the student's journey from Shantipuram Phaphamau to Raymond via an electric bus headed to the engineering college. Hashmi suddenly attacked Vishwakarma near the college gate with a baton.

The accused fled the bus before being apprehended. He hails from Hajiganj in the Soraon police station vicinity. Vishwakarma, 24, a resident of Pratappur Phulpur, sustained severe injuries, prompting widespread outrage among city bus personnel.

During an evening confrontation, when the police interrogated Hashmi about his hidden weapons, he opened fire at the officers, resulting in a leg injury after the police retaliated, enabling his subsequent arrest.
