President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday gave her consent for the formal enactment of two crucial legislations, namely the Delhi Services Act (Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Bill) and the Data Protection Act.

These landmark decisions mark a significant stride in the legal landscape of the country.

However, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), spearheaded by Arvind Kejriwal, encountered a substantial setback on Monday as the Rajya Sabha successfully passed the Delhi Ordinance Bill.

This legislative triumph has now cemented the bill's status as an official law, endowing the central government with authoritative control over diverse facets of the national capital, including the process of official appointments.

It is pertinent to highlight that the bill had already secured the green light in the Lok Sabha on August 3, a result influenced by the majority held by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in that house. Moreover, President Murmu has also granted her endorsement for the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, in addition to the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill.

These developments collectively signify a moment of transformation and recalibration in the legal and political spheres, underlining the evolving dynamics of power and governance.
