According to a story in the Ahmedabad Mirror, Desai, 50, was hurt in an odd accident close to his home and was sent to a private hospital. His daughter Parisha and wife Vidisha survive him.

Sources close to the family claim that on October 15, Desai was involved in an accident while out for his morning stroll along Iscon Ambli Road. He had a severe fall-related head injury. The 50-year-old Desai was reportedly transported to Shelby Hospital immediately after he slipped outside his house in an attempt to defend himself against street dogs that had attacked him, according to a report in the Ahmedabad Mirror.

A day later, as his condition got worse, he was sent to another private hospital on Hebatpur Road. Desai passed suddenly on Sunday due to health issues, despite the fact that an immediate surgery was carried out.
