Engineer Rashid has urged Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to disclose the details of his meetings with PM Modi and other national leaders, particularly about discussions on restoring Article 370 and releasing political prisoners. Rashid emphasized the public’s right to transparency on these critical regional issues.
Engineer Rashid, President of the Awami Ittehad Party and Baramulla MP, has publicly urged Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to reveal the specifics of his recent talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. During a press conference in Srinagar, Rashid expressed that the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve transparency regarding the topics discussed, particularly given the ongoing debate around Article 370 and its potential restoration.
Rashid pointedly questioned if the topic of restoring Article 370, a crucial campaign promise of Abdullah’s JKNC party, was part of these high-profile discussions. The abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status, an issue that has since been a focal point of political discourse in the region. In addition, Rashid sought clarity on whether the release of political prisoners was addressed in Abdullah’s meetings with the national leaders.
Referring to the importance of open communication, Rashid emphasized that people have a "right to know" if these sensitive issues were brought to the table and how the central government responded. Rashid criticized Abdullah for holding private talks without disclosing key details to the public, suggesting that the chief minister should outline his plan if discussions on these matters were inconclusive.

The demand for transparency reflects the heightened expectations following Abdullah’s recent victory as the first elected chief minister of the newly-formed union territory. The questions underscore the anticipation among residents regarding the restoration of regional autonomy and civil liberties as promised by Abdullah's party during the campaign.
