Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, reflecting on Donald Trump’s anticipated win, indicated the U.S. will likely maintain a cautious stance on global commitments, a trend since Obama’s presidency. Despite this shift, Jaishankar expects U.S.-India relations to strengthen, with PM Modi also congratulating Trump on his election victory.

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar commented on Donald Trump’s projected win in the U.S. election, suggesting the U.S. will continue its cautious approach toward international commitments. Speaking in Canberra, Jaishankar remarked that this trend, which began under President Obama, reflects a broader national focus by the U.S., seen in its recent reluctance for foreign interventions and strategic withdrawals, including from Afghanistan.

Jaishankar noted that while Trump may vocalize this stance more assertively, it underscores a shift in U.S. policy that may persist across future administrations. He also observed that America's historical dominance and generosity may diminish, calling for countries to anticipate a world where such U.S. leadership might not be as prevalent.

Despite these changes, Jaishankar emphasized that U.S.-India relations would likely continue to deepen, with an emphasis on creating “collaborative consensual arrangements.” He added that India would benefit from preparing for evolving global power dynamics.
