The J&K assembly passed a resolution seeking the restoration of Article 370, leading to disruptions and protests by BJP members, who accused the government of an “anti-national agenda.” The resolution calls for dialogue with the central government to restore J&K’s special status while ensuring national unity and regional identity.
The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) assembly passed a resolution on Wednesday to seek the restoration of Article 370, sparking uproar as BJP legislators protested vehemently. The resolution, which was passed through a voice vote, calls for reinstating the special status of J&K that was revoked by the central government on August 5, 2019.
The assembly proceedings were marked by a heated exchange, with BJP members chanting slogans like "Jai Shri Ram," "Vande Mataram," and "Pakistani Agenda Nahin Chalega." BJP legislators tore copies of the resolution and accused the National Conference-led government of pushing an “anti-national agenda.” Leader of opposition Sunil Sharma criticized the Speaker for alleged partisanship, asserting that the resolution was drafted “in collusion” with National Conference leaders.
