Former England fast bowler Steven Finn has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, marking the end of a remarkable 18-year journey.
Finn, a three-time Ashes series victor, made the decision due to a persistent knee injury that had kept him away from the game throughout 2023.
The 34-year-old seamer, who represented Middlesex and Sussex domestically, played a pivotal role in England's cricketing history.
Having donned the English jersey between 2010 and 2017, Finn made his mark with 254 wickets across 126 games.
His contributions included 125 wickets in 36 Tests, where he achieved a personal best of 6-79 against Australia during the 2015 Ashes at Edgbaston. Additionally, he showcased his prowess in white-ball internationals, capturing 129 wickets in 90 matches.
In a heartfelt statement, Finn expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to play the sport he loved.
"Today I am retiring from all forms of cricket with immediate effect. I have been fighting a battle with my body for the last 12 months and have admitted defeat to it," Finn stated.
His cricketing journey was marked by memorable achievements, including his involvement in Ashes-winning squads both at home in 2013 and 2015, and in Australia in 2010/11, where England secured the coveted urn overseas for the first time in decades.
Finn's accomplishments extended to the ICC rankings as well, with his ODI bowling prowess earning him a commendable number two spot and his T20 international ranking placing him fifth.
He expressed his hope to contribute to the game in the future, acknowledging the profound impact cricket had on his life.
"Cricket has given me a lot and I hope to give back to the game in some capacity in the future," Finn shared.
