Gadar Composer Uttam Singh Unaware of Song Reuse in Sequel, Expresses Surprise

Song Reuse

Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, has been making waves across the nation, shattering box office records one after another. As the sequel to the 2001 film Gadar, it not only reunites the lead actors but also reprises some tracks from the original soundtrack, adjusted to fit the sequel's context. Although the audience has warmly embraced the revitalized renditions of the songs ``Main Nikla Gaddi Leke '' and "Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava," the original composer, Uttam Singh, finds himself at odds with the creators of Gadar 2. In a conversation with Amar Ujala, he expressed his dismay, revealing that the team behind the sequel neglected to inform him about the decision to incorporate his compositions.

Sharing his perspective, composer Uttam Singh has weighed in on the reimagining of two of his songs in Gadar 2.

The lack of communication surrounding Gadar 2 has left me unsettled, and it's not in my nature to seek out work opportunities through calls. They've integrated two of my compositions into the film and it's come to my attention that they've even incorporated my background music. It's a matter of basic courtesy for them to have reached out and held a conversation with me before utilizing my work in their project," expressed Uttam Singh.

Reflecting on his career journey, Uttam Singh elaborated, "My professional voyage began in 1962 and continues to this day. By the grace of God, my songs remain popular even now. The melodies from 'Waaris' and 'Painter Babu' continue to resonate. Even after 27 years since the release of 'Dil Toh Pagal Hai,' people claim its songs remain vibrant. It feels like it was just yesterday. Throughout my six-decade career, I've never actively sought out opportunities."

Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, has been making waves across the nation, shattering box office records one after another.

Nonetheless, Anil Sharma, the director of Gadar 2, contends that he did indeed notify Uttam Singh about Mithoon's involvement in composing music for the sequel. In an interview with ETimes in June, Anil Sharma asserted, "I explained my rationale behind involving Mithoon, and he comprehended it. Even after Gadar, I continued to make films collaborating with different music directors. Not collaborating with the former music director doesn't inherently signify anything."
