Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is facing a setback as recent reports confirm a ligament tear, likely ruling him out of the remaining group-stage matches in the ICC World Cup 2023. The injury occurred during a game against New Zealand in Dharamsala.

Sources reveal that the medical team, led by Nitin Patel, is closely monitoring Pandya's condition at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Initial assessments indicate a minor ligament tear, a type of injury that typically demands a minimum of two weeks for recovery. The NCA is determined not to clear him for play until he has sufficiently healed. The medical team has conveyed optimism about his return to the pitch in the near future. According to a BCCI source, the team prefers to wait rather than seek a replacement player.

The incident leading to Pandya's injury unfolded during the ninth over of the match. In an attempt to halt a shot from Litton Das, Pandya extended his leg but ended up slipping and twisting his ankle. He was immediately attended to by the Indian physio team, who swiftly provided the necessary support.

Pandya appeared visibly distressed during the treatment. Despite trying to walk and take a run-up, he was unable to continue. Eventually, he had to leave the field, and an unexpected turn of events saw Indian skipper Virat Kohli step in to deliver the remaining deliveries.

Pandya's road to recovery will undoubtedly be closely watched by cricket enthusiasts worldwide. His potential absence from the World Cup could have significant implications for the Indian team's performance. The BCCI and the medical team at NCA are committed to ensuring that Pandya receives the best possible care and rehabilitation for a swift return to form.
