Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat on Wednesday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly conducting raids at the homes of the political advisor to the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh through the Enforcement Directorate.

While speaking to ANI, Rawat stated that such a mean act can only be done by the BJP. He said, “They (BJP) don’t understand the meaning of etiquette. BJP wants to humiliate the opposition leaders.

Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat on Wednesday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly conducting raids at the homes of the political advisor to the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh through the Enforcement Directorate.

Rawat further expressed, “Bhupesh Baghel is a Chief Minister of a state and you would do such a mean thing on his birthday. Only BJP can do such a mean act.”

The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday conducted search operations at the homes of Vinod Verma, along with Manish Banchhor and Ashish Verma. These searches were carried out in connection with an ongoing investigation into an alleged liquor scam.

While both Manish Banchhor and Ashish Verma are serving as Officers on Special Duty (OSDs), Vinod Verma holds the position of political advisor to the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.

On Wednesday, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bupesh Baghel criticised the central government in light of the Enforcement Directorate's raids at the residences of his political advisor and the OSDs.

While responding to this, CM Baghel took to 'X,' previously known as Twitter, stating,  "Respected Prime Minister and Mr Amit Shah! Thank you very much for the priceless gift you have given me on my birthday by sending ED to my political advisor and close friends including my OSD".

According to an ongoing investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), it has been alleged that during the years 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, the illegal sale of liquor accounted for nearly 30-40 per cent of the total liquor sales in the state.

This alleged illicit activity is believed to have generated illegal profits ranging between Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,500 crore. The ED is still investigating this matter.
